PM Modi Begins Historic Poland, Ukraine Visit; Urges Peace and Stronger Ties

PM Modi embarks on his first visit to Poland and Ukraine, focusing on strengthening ties and promoting peace amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a significant trip to Poland and Ukraine, marking his first visit to both nations. On August 21, Modi will arrive in Poland, and two days later, on August 23, he will visit Ukraine. This historic trip is the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Ukraine and the first visit to Poland by an Indian PM in 45 years. Modi emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the region, expressing hope for a resolution as a “friend and partner.”

In Poland, Modi is set to meet with key leaders, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda, to strengthen bilateral ties. Poland, described as a crucial economic partner in Central Europe, shares democratic values with India. The visit will also include interactions with the vibrant Indian community in Poland, furthering the long-standing partnership between the two nations.

Modi gave assurance in his departing statement that “the visit will serve as a natural continuation of extensive contacts with the two countries and help create the foundation for stronger and more vibrant relations in the years ahead”.

Following his stop in Poland, Modi will visit Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This visit is intended to foster closer cooperation and discuss peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Modi has previously met Zelenskyy three times, twice since the Russia-Ukraine war began. The talks will focus on political, trade, and cultural aspects, aiming to enhance bilateral ties and cooperation across various sectors.
